If you are trying to find a flat to rent you will be eager to find the perfect one and seal the deal. It is likely you already have your set of requirements; how many rooms you want, a price limit per month for rent, and so on and so forth. However, if you are looking for flats to rent in London then the search process is a little bit different. Don’t worry; you won’t have to fill out more forms or go through a longer procedure. You will have to be more selective with your search process though.
London is a busy and popular place. It is generally a lot more expensive in cost. You need to remember the fact that you will have bills to pay on top of your rent, including; council tax, electricity, water, gas, TV license, and alike. Budgeting effectively is pivotal. You don’t want to find yourself in a position whereby you cannot afford the rent payments. So, what can you do?

It is all about compromise. What is more important to you: Living alone or being in a bustling area? If the former is the case, then you can opt to live in a location that is slightly on the outskirts of London. There are lots of towns and cities that are near London and boast great public transport. There will be frequent trains available so you can go into London as frequently as you like. You may want to consider areas such as Watford, Dartford, and Slough. Take a look at a map and circle the big towns and cities based near London. It helps if you have an idea regarding the area of London you’d like to be closest to. Thus, if you want to be near North London then Watford is a good option.

If you deem being in London imperative then you may want to consider going for a flat share. Essentially this means that you rent with another person. You have your own room, and sometimes an en suite, however the kitchen and living area will be communal. You can also contemplate the prospect of going for a studio flat. By doing this you will be able to live alone however you cut the costs because the bedroom and the living area is one.

You should do extensive research yourself. Don’t simply believe what the estate agents and landlords tell you. They will all say that their area is the best location in London or the best place if you want to commute to London frequently. You need to be sure of this yourself. Go on forum boards and see what other people say about the area. Check out the train and bus times – how frequently they depart from the area. Spend a weekend getting to know the place. If you can afford to, then book into a cheap hotel or B&B and explore the district. Take the journey to work or a place in London you’ll be visiting frequently. This is the best way to get a thorough feel for the area and to determine if the place is somewhere you can see yourself living.

There are lots of great flats to rent in London. However, not all of these are attainable with everyone’s budgets. You need to compromise. Find an area further out or sacrifice a little bit on the type of flat you are looking for.
