There are lots of changes that you can make to your property if you want to increase the value of your home. Whether you want to sell your property as soon as possible or many years in the future, all of the following options have proven to be reliable ways to add value to your home.

1. Create a Space for Parking

This is a very reliable way to increase the value of your home. Many families have two or more cars, and the more space there is for them to park their vehicles, the more convenient it will be for them. Whether you don’t have any parking spaces or you only have space for one vehicle, adding another space is a very good way to add value to your property.

2. Install Double Glazing & Central Heating

Many homes already have double glazing and central heating, but if your property does not then this is a simple way to instantly add value. It can also help you to cut your heating bills if you plan to continue living in your property because double glazing improves insulation.

3. Convert Your Loft

Roof structure

It’s not the cheapest renovation you can carry out, but it is almost guaranteed to increase the value of your home. By adding an office or an extra bedroom in your loft, you can make the most out of your property without having to build outwards. Of course, this will only be worth it if the space is usable; a badly-converted space could end up costing you a lot of money for nothing.

4. Crack Open the Paint

Ready to paint

Painting the interior of your home is another affordable and simple way to add value. You can make the interior look a lot more attractive just by freshening it up with a lick of paint, which can help to make a good first impression for potential buyers. Just make sure you stick to neutral colours to avoid putting people off.

5. Spruce Up Your Garden

An attractive, landscaped garden that allows in plenty of light can help to increase the value of your home. This won’t cost much if you do it yourself, but you may have to hire some professionals if you need to cut a tree down or carry out some more serious renovations.

If you have a lot of junk to clear out from the garden, you could consider hiring a skip from a firm like Love Skip Hire to make sure you clear everything away efficiently and that the majority of the material removed gets recycled.

6. Build a Conservatory

A conservatory is an attractive addition to any property. It essentially adds another room to your home, adding light and space, and can certainly increase the price of the property. However, try to make sure that it does not take up too much space if you only have a small garden.

7. Add an En-Suite Bathroom

An en-suite bathroom attached to the main bedroom can help to boost the value of your home. These are very desirable and it never hurts to have another bathroom in your home.

8. Brighten Up Your Home

Increasing the amount of natural light in your home is a good way to boost its value. If your home suffers from a lack of sunlight, consider adding skylights and extra windows, or a sliding glass door to the living room.

9. Make It More Spacious

A spacious property can help to add value to a home, although it depends on how you plan to go about this. For example, if you have a separate kitchen and living room you could knock the wall down and open up the space for a more open-plan interior, and this could help to add value. However, if you convert two perfectly good bedrooms into one very large bedroom this may not be a great idea, so it’s worth asking a specialist before you make any decisions.

10. Add An Extension

If you can afford an extension, and you have the space to extend into, this can be a very good way to add value to your property. You can add more bedrooms and space to your property, and this is nearly always a good way to add value. However, make sure you have planning permission before you start any work.

Add More Value to Your Home

Some of the above ideas are a lot simpler and cheaper than others, but they are all effective ways to increase the value of your home. Just remember that whenever you are planning any major work that will be very expensive, always seek advice from a local property specialist before you go ahead with your plans as they may be able to help you to avoid spending money on renovations that do not add any real value.
